by Kayce Stevens Hughlett
Today's prompt play is from the fabulous book, Wide Awake. Every Week. It's a lovely compilation of 52 voices and 365 AHA! Moments. This one just happens to be by yours truly :)
"Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see."
C.S. LEWIS
A MIRACLE? YES, PLEASE
I read a story about miracles one day and was so touched that I sat alone in my car and cried. Later when I tried to remember the specifics of the story, my mind went blank. It’s almost like the miracle disappeared.
Maybe that’s what miracles are—small moments that reach out through the unexpected ordinary in our day. They grab us and squeeze so tightly that tears stream down our cheeks and we can’t say why or how, but we know we’ve been moved and changed.
The only miracles I heard about while growing up were humongous heroic gestures like David slaying the giant and Moses parting the Red Sea. Miracles were the unattainable stuff of storybooks. Today, I think they may be something different, a quality attainable and available in any given moment.
What if a miracle meant simply changing your attitude about something you thought you’d be stuck with forever? What if it meant opening your eyes to what’s right in front of you? What if you saw miracles in sunbeams and freckles? In squirrels and eagles? In here and now?
During the month of March, Sharon Richards and I (the creators of SoulStrolling) are sharing 31 simple words to help you connect and collaborate with your world. (Click here for details and to download the words. No sign up and it’s FREE!)
Ponder the word for the day. Notice what arises in your mind. Free-write. Set a timer for 3 minutes. Make art. Dance it. Snap a photo. Use it as a walking meditation. Slow down. Take your soul for a stroll. Be present. What captures your eye? The ways to play are infinite!!!
Share your findings on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, your blog... Use the hashtag #soulstrolling + the prompt for the day (ex. #here&now) I'd love to know if you're playing!
