Social Justice: I'm listening, reading, supporting ...

by Kayce Stevens Hughlett

I'm making education and action regarding anti-racism a priority. I will stumble, not get it right, mess up, and piss people off, but I'm trying. I vow to do better. [Full text & more resources click here.]

Today's Resources ...

I'm Listening to ...

This powerful, graphic current mythos by story teller Michael Meade. Lovers of metaphor, this is for you.

Note: I was glad I was out walking on the earth as I listened. It's not an easy listen, but so very important.

Michael Meade - A turning point for humanity podcast

This episode addresses the tragic killing of George Floyd and the ground swell of protests against the epidemic of racism and blatant injustice.

The word crisis comes directly from ancient Greek healers, who used the term to define a turning point in the course of a disease.

Tarana Burke and Brené Brown on Being Heard and Seen. Tarana Burke has been working at the intersection of racial justice and gender equity for nearly three decades, and she started the “Me Too” Movement in 2006.  In 2017, when the #metoo hashtag went viral, Tarana emerged as a global leader in the evolving conversation around sexual violence.

Artists You Might Like to Know and Support

I've long been an admirer of artist Jennifer Price Davis who created the angel graphic at the beginning of this post. Jennifer is a Cleveland-based painter and writer. She says, "I paint what pops in my soul and demands to come to life.  My work focuses primarily on black culture and what it means to exist in black bodies, with emphasis on black women and girls." Her Angel Series is one of my favorites and I can't wait for my own angel to arrive very soon!

Marissa Monroe is an award-winning designer + strategist based in North Carolina designing for creatives and businesses across the globe. “M” for short has an incredible passion for beautiful design, from the way it looks to the way it works. Be one of the first to receive her #BLACKLIVESMATTER | Hand-illustrated stickers to support our current events and landscape. They are currently in production. These are for pre-order and will begin to ship the week of June 8th. All profits from this collection will go directly to bailout funds and organizations supporting black lives matter, the ending of police brutality, system racism + social injustice.
