#3 Quiet Time to Fuel Creativity
by Michele Jennae Battershell
“Quiet time to fuel creativity? Are you kidding me? I have no time for quiet, and no time for creativity. I have projects to finish, problems to solve, lists of tasks to complete and check off my list….”
I know, it’s hard to take time for yourself. Quiet time. Relaxed time. YOUR TIME.
So about your projects and problems and tasks. They all require brain power and physical energy to complete. The more of those you have, the more effective you will be with your projects and problems and tasks.
Creativity isn’t always about a masterpiece painting or the next bestselling book. Creativity is allowing your brain to make connections to solutions and it often happens on a subconscious, and maybe even an unconscious level.
So whether you are looking for the creativity to get past writer’s block, or you are looking for ways to have a difficult conversation with a coworker, relaxation and quiet can help.
Here are some suggestions.
1. Take a bath or an extra long hot shower. Use essential oils and give yourself a near-spa experience. Often our best ideas come under running water.
2. Meditate. Let your mind wander. Use guided meditation, or just focus on affirmations and visualizations of goals. Repeating phrases can be very relaxing and will fuel the mind for the future.
3. Watch a chick flick or read a good book. Escapism is essential to just shut our overworked brains off and get away in our minds. Some of my best vacations were within the pages of a good book.
4. If you absolutely MUST be productive, spend some quiet time knitting or crocheting, stamping homemade holiday cards, writing letters. You’ll not only CREATE, but the repetitiveness will let your mind work on other problems you’ve been wracking your brain about without raising your blood pressure.
5. Enjoy a glass of wine. I have a quote… “Without ideas wine flows. With wine ideas flow.” Either way I win.
