hope
A dear blogging Canadian friend captured my heart this morning with her post which I have audaciously copied verbatim. It is one that I would love every voter to see and take to heart (regardless of party or candidate affiliation!) Please get out and vote if you have not already!!!
Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but rather the certainty that something makes sense regardless of how it turns out.

Such a beautiful quote...I've copied it into my journal. Thank you for sharing this.
I am honoured you appreciated my post so much, dear blogging friend. I love that photo so much -- especially the arm around Michelle. It says so much about the man.
BTW, I am an American citizen living in Quebec, Canada. I sent in my absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago. :)
I "so much" need an editor. :S
thanks, kate...it's a great one for the archives!
barbara--you have that wonderful way about you that led me to assume that you must be canadian :-) sorry for the misnomer!
you have "so much" of value to say...editor or no!
I have lived here the better part of 35 years, most of my life, so I guess some Canuck wore off on me, eh? ;)
So be it!
Oh, what a beautiful photo and quote. It's going in my keepsake book too:) Thank you to Barbara and to Lucy!
xoxo
I think there is something innate in us that we want to have certainty that it will 'all make sense'. However, working in a neonatal ICU, I've found that things aren't always that black and white.
Hope needs to be there, that things will work out for the best, because certainty is not always there. Hope for finding the positive no matter how it turns out. Hope that gives a person the strength to make it through something, even when it doesn't make sense, but you believe there is a reason for things that happen. And, perhaps, in time with reflection, then the pieces will fall into place and we can see the whole picture, and be content.
Yes!
HGF--thank you for sharing your insightful words on hope and certainty or uncertainty...we do want things to be definitive; black & white...there is something about surrendering to the unknown and releasing the hold on certainty (as we have defined it most commonly) that provides us with freedom to rest.
thank you, ALL...for showing up here! i really do appreciate seeing your comments--both large & small :-)
I saw this at Barbara’s too (although just a few minutes ago on Wednesday morning AFTER the election) and was touched. It speaks volumes doesn’t it? I’m filled with hope this morning and am fully aware how challenging the next few years will be for Obama and all of us.
Hugs and blessings,
storyteller--today is definitely a day of hope...may the many to come also be. yes we can!
