celebrating blessings

Only 20 pages in and I am LOVING this book:
My Grandfather's Blessings - Rachel Naomi Remen
"Blessing life may be more about learning how to celebrate life than learning how to fix life."
"...life is about filling yourself up so that your blessings overflow onto others."

Ah! You discovered one of my favorite books!
I heard Remen interviewed by Krista Tippett for Speaking of Faith. The interview entitled, "http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/2008/listening_generously/" rel="nofollow">Listening Generously," prompted me to buy Remen's two volume set including, "Kitchen Table Wisdom" and "My Grandfather's Blessings." I rushed through both of the books. I was blessed and awestruck. The two volumes include stories that I revisit in my my mind; and share when it seems relevant in a thoughtful conversation.
I now work my way through the books by frequently reading one story at a time during my "quiet time." I observe her expositions of the gifts of healing. I am inspired to do what I can to offer, and receive, such gifts.
You are in circumstances to especially receive and share the blessings offered in her works. Enjoy and share!

celebrating
not fixing
interesting
Oh, I agree Lucy! We put so much thought and energy into fixing what's not broken. It's another mindset...shifting the perspective just slightly to see all that is right and beautiful about us and our lives. How did it happen that we came to believe we were broken, I wonder.
Your photograph is so beautiful and so full of joy.
thanks lucy i read a bit of this book a gift indeed
Both of Rachel's books are some of my favorites, ones I read and reread. The first time I read each of them I went slowly, in part because I didn't want it to end. May you savor the richness and blessings!
Great bandana and the daisy chain: is it a drum in the background? Reminds me of that wonderful image in scripture, "pressed down, shaken together and flowing over!" (Luke 6:38)
Have to put it on my must read list now!
Oooh, sounds like a good read.
Celebrating not fixing
Expectancy not expectations
Makes you wonder just *how* different God is from us, doesn't it, when you really get into the nitty gritty of what control freaks we are :)
And oh, how wonderful and wondrous and beautiful are the people who have learnt how to celebrate life, who have got beyond their own guilt and smallness. May we all learn continuously more how to do this (especially seeing there are coresponding parts of our soul that I do believe wish for us *not* to do so)

thank each of you for celebrating these blessings alongside me. in return, i am blessed by your presence.
(and yes, kigen, it is a drum in the background.)
