love & fear...love & hate...not so different
Lucy, Charlie Brown & Linus make this great statement for love & hate. I found the cartoon at Experimental Theology where he is doing an online book on "The Theology of Peanuts." (It's a quite thought provoking series aside from the fact that he equates Lucy to the Satan figure ☹.) I thought it fit quite nicely with the discussion on love & fear.
(fyi--if you have trouble reading the cartoon, click on the photo and it will be enlarged.)
Shall we all practice leaning a little to one side? Now would that be the right or the left?? Hmmm....Let's all lean toward the love side, what do you think?

This is priceless! Leave it to good 'ol Charles Schultz, son of the land of lakes and love (Yes, that's Minnesota ;)
Simple, yet still much to ponder.
Hmmm, it occurs tome that the most profound thoughts are like that....
Thanks, Lucy.
Your friend A from Minnesota
I took a Peanuts quiz and I am WOODSTOCK!!! So what does that really say about me?!
Love vs. Fear ... yes, this is a theme fro me right now - in a BIG way. As far as sending your son away that time ... maybe it was Fear ... but there was a lot of Love mixed in there too. And some Fear is healthy Fear.
I'm leaning, Lucy - I'm ei - LEEN!
Oh, I get it.....I didn't have to go in search of my heart....I just had to lean my heart!!! That's a pretty neat concept!! I think I will put an elastic on my left wrist to remind me to live in Love and hence pull me to the left! Love the post! Love, Tin Man #1 !!!
A--yep, simple is often (usually perhaps) best!
dream--i definitely agree that often the choices are very intertwined...(usually perhaps?) it is when we try to ignore the fear and say everything is coming from love that i think we get in trouble!
keep -leening :-)
tin man#1--i like the way you think !!!
G'day from Australia,
I've always admired the work of the late Charles Schulz - and I think your choice of blog name is one of the best I've ever seen.
I'm leaning right now!
xoxoxo

I love this cartoon, Lucy. I recall reading it in a Peanuts book many, many years ago, but didn't remember it until now.
I think this cartoon is going to stay in my head like a catchy melody during the coming week. At least I hope it will. It will help me stay in correct alignment, even if this means walking tilted to one side.
david--welcome to "diamonds" and thank you for the wonderful compliment. it's funny how the name kind of found me rather than being something i thought up. i have never tired of it.
please come and visit again!
SS--me too...although today it feels like an uphill battle. damn!
elaine--i assume it's a happy little tune caught in your head rather than one of those annoying diddies that you can't get rid of...:-)
I love this cartoon ... thanks for sharing. I know she's your alter ego, but sometimes Lucy's just a bit "off" ... and I feel like Charlie saying "Good Grief" to the leaning. Let's just release fear and let love fill us up ... once and for all. Leaning seems awkward and perhaps dangerous to me.
Hugs and blessings,
This is an interesting concept...I was reading elsewhere regarding the same subject..., as far as, what are your actions rooted in, and what is the fruit they are producing (love tree, fear tree). will be back with the link...it explains the concept much better :)
thanks, HGF...i'd love to have the link when you find it!
storyteller--it is always interesting to me how one concept can resonate with some and for others it can feel a bit "off"! i am so glad you feel comfortable speaking of this awkward leaning. (maybe leaning toward the left or right strikes other cords, perhaps?) :-) peace
You know I've been consumed with tennis and more than a bit distracted lately. This morning while clearing out my email box, I came across your response ... and that caused me to revisit this post and the comment I made previously. I don't know if leaning left or right has other connotations for me ... but I do know I've been striving for balance in all things for the past few years, and I sense the "leaning" feels awkward for that reason. Because ACIM defines love as letting go of fear ... it feels like we choose one or the other. Maybe that's what Schultz (and everyone else here) intends? I'm reminded how inadequate words can be when addressing matters of spirit ... but I do believe that the dialogue is important and I appreciate your blog (and others) as a forum for such topics ... so thanks, as always.
Hugs and blessings,
i love the concept of balance!!! i really think we get stuck in thinking we have to choose between love and fear because one is better than the other when in reality we are comprised of both and i imagine there is a pretty good reason for that.
so glad to have continued dialogue with you!
